Wang Zhan, director of the research office of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee, put the proposal to the National People's Congress in Beijing yesterday, according to the Oriental Morning Post.
The luxury tour package could includes gardens in Suzhou, Huangshan Mountain, West Lake in Hangzhou, Nanjing, Wuxi, Changzhou and other cities along the route. He suggested that a Eurail style pass be introduced so that tourists could stop off at various cities as they pleased.
For mainland tourists, Wang proposed a train tour package including Shanghai-Nanjing, Nanjing-Wuhu, Anhui-Jiangxi, Zhejiang-Jiangxi, Shanghai-Hangzhou and Xuancheng-Hangzhou links.
He also suggested motor homes could be provided along the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal.
