You can find the oldest European theatre in Asia, as well as the first western lighthouse, colonial palaces and Chinese courtyards, just to name a few.
The number of skyscrapers in Macao has been growing at an unprecedented rate over the past decade as the local economy develops.
You can see spectacular casino buildings. In the bustling city center, there are lines of stores selling luxury brands.
There are also many entertainment and sports events happening in the city all year long. Among the most internationally known is the Macao Grand Prix, a series of car and motorcycle races around a circuit of the city's streets.
If you have the guts, you can also challenge yourself with the SkyJump, a new attraction at the 338-meter Macao Tower.
Modern development has not erased the ancient and traditional touch of the city though. You can get a feel for the history of Macao just by seeing its old streets, houses, stores, churches, temples and local customs. If you like, you can visit the various museums, such as the Macao Museum, Maritime Museum and Wine Museum, to get a better knowledge of its history in different aspects.
In some quarters of the city, you will discover some old craftsmanship still in practice. We found small workshops that handcrafted leather shoes, household items and bamboo baskets. In today's highly industrialized world, these shops are a rare scene.
In Macao, you can taste a great variety of cuisines, which is also a reflection of the city's long multicultural history.
I personally suggest Macanese cuisine, which is unique to Macao and combines elements of Portuguese, Chinese, Indian and even Malay cooking.
Apart from big restaurants, you can also find many small, crowded restaurants lining the streets. Here you can taste various kinds of local cuisines for a low price. Some of the restaurants have their own secret recipes handed down from generation to generation.
