The Museum of Imperial Palace of Puppet Manchu State was founded in 1962. It was officially opened to the public in 1984 in the name of “the Puppet Emperor's Palace & Exhibition Hall”. In 2000, it was renamed “the Museum of Imperial Palace of Puppet Manchu State”. It covers a total area of 0.137 million square meters, of which 47,000 is exhibition area. It has approximately 20,000 pieces of cultural relics.
The palace covers an area of 12 hectares. It was a palace for puppet emperor Puyi to live in during 1932 and 1945. Its three main buildings are Qinmin Building, Jixi Building and Tongde Hall. It is divided into an inner court and an outer court. The inner court was the private living quarters for Puyi and his family. The outer court contains buildings for state affairs. Within the complex are gardens, including a rockeries and fish pond, a swimming pool, air-raid shelter, a tennis court, a small golf course, a horse track.
Today, the palace has been partially used to exhibit the historical collections of the northeast China-based Dynasties of Koguryo, Bohai, Liao and Jin so on.
Since opening, there have been about 5 million visitors so far, and was awarded with the titles of “ Grade AAAA Scenic Area in China”, and “Outstanding Base for Patriotic Education in China ”.
