Changbai Mountain is situated in Antu County of Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture in northeast China, bordering the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in the south. It is acknowledged as the most famous mountain in the northeast of China. Changbai Mountain National Nature Reservevovers an area of 190,781 hectares, with the forest coverage as high as 87.7% and a timber storage capacity of 44 million cubic meters. Changbai Mountain is regarded as a rare genebank of species and natural museum in the world.
As a dormant volcano, Changbai Mountain boasts rare animals, marvelous lakes, amazing hot springs, and large areas of forests.
The Mountain bears a great variety of wild animals. There are 1,225 known animal species, among which 43 species are under the state protection, such as leopard, Siberian tiger, sika, sable, golden eagle, black bear, lynx, otter and goral.
