Article Guide:It is situated in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River at the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing Rivers in southwest China. With an total area of 82,400 square kilometers (31, 800 square miles), Chongqing shares borders with the provinces of Hubei, Hunan, Guizhou, Sichuan, and Shaanxi.

 

Because of its prominent role in the country's history and its rich cultural diversity, it is no surprise that Chongqing offers an array of major historical and cultural attractions. Chongqing attracts visitors from home and abroad for its cultural heritage and other tourist attractions. The city is the starting point for the Yangtze River Cruise, which explores the stunning scenery of the Three Gorges.The city was the base for the Allied effort during WWII. Chongqing is also home of the Dazu Rock Carvings. Chongqing Safari Park is just one of a few of the important cultural-historical highlights of the area.

 

There are also some other, more charming and scenic aspects in Chongqing Municipality, including its many and varied cityscapes, its mountains, rivers, and lakes. There are even days when the Chongqing fog can rival that of London, a phenomenon mostly seen in autumns and winters. The focal point of the unique Yangtze Three Gorges Dam in Chongqing is also a tourist attraction.

 

The city offers a variety of choices for the visitor - from shopping malls to dining and entertainment emporiums. Chongqing is famous for its hot Sichuan cuisine and world-famous hotpot dishes. Street vendors as well as restaurants feature exciting spicy delicacies for the adventurers.The nighttime view of the heart of Chongqing's downtown area, with its myriad of glittering lights and their reflections in the city's two rivers, is an especially majestic and romantic sight to behold.
